Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) is a useful legal mechanism intended to better protect people when they lack mental capacity. Most LPA attorneys act with honesty and competence.
A person – the ‘donor’ – chooses another trusted person or people – the ‘attorney(s)’ – to make decisions for them, and manage their financial affairs, should they lose mental capacity in the future. In England and Wales there is a separate type of LPA agreement which transfers decision making powers relating to a person’s Health and Welfare.
Despite a clear duty of the LPA attorney to make all decisions in the donor’s best interests, some attorneys go on to abuse their position of trust, using their considerable powers for their own benefit.
Some go on to act with unimaginable cruelty and greed.

The abuse I have described is clearly widespread. Cases from up and down the country are becoming more evident every day.
I believe it is time we act to prevent such appalling injustice
